Date: 2008-02-03
International Conference on Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking,
Cluj-Napoca, Romania, the 23rd of January 2008
The RWCT Association Romania disseminated the activities unrolled within the More PAL project during the Conference through the presentation How we have applied RWCT in the Grundtvig projects introduced by Maria Kovacs and Ariana Văcăreţu.
Participants: RWCT Association members Romania, members of UK Literacy Association, members of Finnish Reading Association, members of Russian Reading Association, members of the Spanish Reading Association, members of the Portuguese Reading Association, members of the Kosovar Reading Association, members of the Kazach Reading Association, members of the Latvian Reading Association, members of the Lithuanian Federation of Educational Organizations, IRA board member professor Taffy Raphael, IRA director of affiliates and national councils Brenda Townsend, members of the Croatian Reading Association, members of the Czech Reading Association, members of the Serbian Reading Association, members of the Dutch Reading Association.
Our aim in making the presentation How we have applied RWCT in the Grundtvig projects in the conference was twofold: on the one hand, aimed to share the RWCT Association’s experiences in applying active learning and critical thinking strategies in working with adults, especially parents of children from disadvantaged backgrounds and teachers. On the other hand, we wanted to learn from the participants how they develop adults’ literacy skills, as the participants’ common denominator was literacy – and especially reading - skills. The participants found that MorePAL was an example of good practice in terms of collaboration among European adult education institutions with a view to developing adults’ parenting skills to better support their children’s progress in acquiring literacy skills.
